The American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN) was established in 1968 and today represents a community of over 4,000 nurses and associated healthcare professionals worldwide caring for patients in the neuroscience population. AANN is closely affiliated with the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing, which represents 2,000 nurses credentialed as a Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN), the Neuroscience Nursing Foundation, and the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses. Additionally, the association forms alliances with other entities concerned with the well-being of neuroscience patients – from NPOs to industry – to further related missions.

The association is based on a commitment to the “advancement of neuroscience nursing as a specialty through the development and support of nurses to promote excellence in patient care.” (AANN mission statement) Recent efforts to support our mission include the publication of the Core Curriculum for Neuroscience Nursing, 4th Edition, and the Foundations of Neuroscience Nursing, orientation materials to educate nurses new to caring for patients with neurological diseases or sequelae.

AANN hosts an annual meeting in the Spring, which brings together over 1,000 nurses and allied healthcare professionals from around the globe, to address the latest treatment options and techniques, arising trends, and best practices in the field of neuroscience nursing.
