Council of State Neurosurgical Societies

Young Neurosurgeons Representational Section

The mission of the Young Neurosurgeons Section is to educate, engage, and involve medical students, residents, fellows, and early-career neurosurgeons in Council of State Neurological Societies (CSNS) and AANS/CNS organizational activities related to the socioeconomic aspects of neurosurgical practice.

The Section develops educational, research, and policy-focused initiatives that address issues of particular importance to trainees and young neurosurgeons, including job search and contract negotiation, practice initiation, board certification and recertification, training conditions, practice economics, and evolving practice models.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Socioeconomic education programming for residents and early-career neurosurgeons, including the Socioeconomic Fellow monthly webinar series
  • Study of trends in neurosurgical training and preparedness for early career practice
  • Mentorship and engagement, including coordination of mentorship opportunities and committee involvement for CSNS Socioeconomic Fellows
  • Knowledge continuity and institutional memory, through the creation of a centralized database of completed and ongoing CSNS activities, including adopted resolutions, projects, publications, and key contacts
